From May 6 to 11, Brazil’s top swimmers gathered at the Aeronautics Olympic Training Center in Rio de Janeiro for the Troféu Brasil de Natação — the national championship and official qualifier for the Olympic Games. The competition brought together elite athletes in a high-stakes race to represent Brazil on the world’s biggest stage.
Among the standout names were several Mormaii athletes who embody the brand’s commitment to performance, discipline, and purpose.
Fernando Scheffer, Olympic bronze medalist in the 200m freestyle at Tokyo 2020, returned to the pool with determination. He competed on May 7 in the 200m freestyle and again on May 9 in the 100m freestyle.
Maria Paula Heitmann, South American record holder in the 400m freestyle, also entered the competition with strong performances in the 200m, 100m, and 800m freestyle events.
Leonardo de Deus, a veteran of three Olympic Games and a dominant force in the butterfly stroke, took on the 200m butterfly and 200m backstroke as he aimed for his fourth Olympic appearance.
Other Mormaii athletes in the running included Matheus Cony Siniscalchi, a multi-time Brazilian champion in long-distance events; Alexandre Finco, national champion in 5K and 10K open water races; and Matheus Melechi, already qualified for the Open Water World Championships. These three competed in the 1500m freestyle on May 9 and the 800m freestyle on May 11.
Scheffer shared his mindset heading into the trials:
“This is a key moment. It’s the competition that defines who gets to wear the Brazilian colors in Paris. I’m excited and hopeful. Representing Brazil again would mean everything.”
To secure a spot on the Olympic team, athletes must finish in the top two of their events and meet the Olympic qualifying time. It’s a demanding standard — but one that Mormaii athletes are ready to meet.
At Mormaii, we proudly support these athletes not only in competition, but in the mindset and movement that carry them forward. From training to triumph, their journey reflects what we stand for: excellence, resilience, and a purpose-driven life in motion.
